      Autism, or Autistic Spectrum Disorder, is a condition characterised by: Profound failure to develop social relationships; language disorder with impaired understanding, echolalia, and pronominal reversal; rituals and comulsive phenomena; general retardation in intellectual development (most cases); and a male:female incidence of about 4:1.

      The condition is thought to be caused by abnormal seratonin metabolism within the brain. The following nutrients have been shown to be benefical in some cases of autism: Folic acid, vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin B5 & magnesium.

      Autism treatment therapies that have been useful include: avoidance of food allergies. I would suggest a comprehensive IgG blood test to determine the presence of undiagnosed food allergies. Two common allergens tend to be dairy (all forms - goat, sheep and cow), plus gluten. The proteins Gluten and Gliadin are contained within the following grains: Wheat, Spelt, Barley, Rye & Oats. Also testing for, and treating where necessary, intestinal permeability, or leaky gut.
